Our day started at Westview Church with a trip debrief and meeting with Ian, Senior Minister at Westview. Ian shared some of the challenges in South Africa since it became democratic following apartheid.
We also heard from Heidi who is in charge of the Ithemba (Zulu word for Hope) Counseling Center which specializes in bringing hope to the victims and families of gender based violence. They are the victim’s advocate when dealing with both the families and police. Additionally, they are a Christian based counseling center that also deals with a wide variety of subjects such as premarital counseling parenting and personal growth skills. They also help women gain personal skills to foster independent living with classes such as sewing.
Following the meeting we parted ways with our Russian friends and partners. We were then driven to The Lazy Grape, our bed and breakfast near Johannesburg.
