Hola de Honduras! We’re a team of five men and four women from Resurrection serving for eight days in the beautiful country of Honduras. Eight of us met at KCI Airport bright and early at 3:30(ish)am today and Bill and Trey from Church of Resurrection Leawood graciously saw us off with a group prayer and well wishes. As we jetted off to Houston, TX we met up with our final member. We arrived in Tegucigalpa, Honduras around noon. Sandy, Sumaya, and Moises met us with loving arms and we exchanged our currency and were on our way to lunch at Pollo Supremo.

After a very fulfilling and delicious meal we went to Cuidad de Espana to tour the church, school, and clinic. We were greeted with hugs, smiles, challenges to soccer/basketball and lots of love. After the tour, we enjoyed seeing the soccer skills of many boys in the school and got our hair braided by the girls. We shared hugs and translated conversation with the mothers and women of the church. We then made the two hour journey to Danli in the van, with lots of laughter and good conversation about food – working our appetites right back up again (Right, Tyler?).

After the winding journey up and down the mountains, we arrived at our hotel. After a quick freshening up, we were taken to a delicious dinner made by Carlos. With full bellies once more, we came back to the hotel and debriefed a bit. Sumaya gave us some more insight about the culture and customs, including telling us that just by what we might think is a small detail, we could possibly change someone’s entire life and to embrace these connections. Moises helped us with our growing Spanish vocabularies, including proudly stating the Hondurans call themselves, “Catrachas”. After some down time and showers, we look forward to what Sunday will bring our way. Adios!
