After  ending last night trying to distract Natalie so that we could decorate for her birthday today, (it’s a lot harder than you might think with 20 people co-habitating on one floor and 7 rooms).  Between, “Natalie, would you like to go take a shower?” to “do you think we should organize these suitcases between crayons and markers?”, I think she may have figured it out….

This morning dawned with blue skies and fluffy clouds as we stumbled into the kitchen towards coffee and breakfast.  It’s great to start your day with a traditional Honduran breakfast (pic at the bottom).  With a 100% chance of rain in the forecast, we had no idea what the day might or might not bring as we jumped into the vans and headed into the hills towards Ciudad Espana.

It is El Dia del Estudiante in Honduras today (not just Natalie’s birthday!) so the morning was filled with dancing, skits, singing, practicing English and Spanish, and games.  We taught them “Rise and Sing” and they taught us how to dance a traditional Honduran dance.  After much student interaction, it was time to do some painting on the outside of all of the buildinds.  We LOVED it when some of the older students joined us to paint.  As we painted, we taught them English and they taught us Spanish.  Some of the team members taught the kids a new song in Spanish.  So much laughter and so many smiles!   While the sun was very hot when the cool breezes blew in, we noticed the sounds of the gentle wind, the goats and roosters making noise, and just felt God’s presence as we served together.  And even with 100% chance of rain, the rains never came except for a short shower on the way home.
