Put me to doing…

“It felt good to do what we came here for,” Dave said tonight during our team debrief.

The “doing” started out with various phone alarm ring tones nudging  us to get out of bed so we could make a  7 am departure for the worksite. But things happen, right? We ventured out a little later than planned. At the church, we eagerly exited the van, ready to jump into painting the exterior walls. But first, some serious scraping needed to happen. Plus, a second project found several of us manning (and womaning) jack hammers and chippers to take out some tile on a long exterior corridor and steps – some very stubborn tile…

Our “doing” included being flexible.

The day was very warm with some pretty intense sun. We gave each other reminders to drink lots of water and use sun screen…

Our “doing” included looking out for each other.

Team members climbed up and down  ladders, took on the challenge of using equipment new to them, refused to give up until that last stubborn step was cleared of tile, battled ants while peeling off large clumps of paint, discovered muscles we hadn’t used in awhile…

Our “doing” included hard work!

We discovered Choy had served in Vietnam Nam. Joey – tired from lack of sleep – opened up to some team members and showed us a photo of a past serve trip team. Rosanna shared about her 5 grandchildren (including twin boys she can’t tell apart sometimes). Nine-year-old Adrian – very shy yesterday – showed us his jumping skills, told us about his dog named Rick and pointed out all the neighboring farm animals…

Our “doing” included building relationships.

Thank you, Jesus, for putting us to “doing” as your hands, feet, eyes and ears today!

This blog represents what took place on Monday.
