The night consumed us as we boarded together onto the plane with bags in hand, unknowing of what lied ahead. When we finally soared into the valley town of Tegucigalpa early in the afternoon, we were greeted with open arms. After first boarding the vans, the chaotic nature of the traffic overwhelmed us on our ride to the mission house. The anxiety of an unknown land settled in through that short journey. By the time we reached the mission house, we were amounted with the task of unloading and settling into God’s home for us.

Once we were settled into the mission house and had eaten a delicious late lunch, we retreated to the van for a trip to the Christ Statue. We bustled through the streets of the city and eventually began our ascent up the side of the surrounding mountain range. As we pinnacled the journey up the mountain, my perspective of the city transformed as I saw a city united with their love for Christ. These citizens erected a statue of Jesus the Christ to profess that united love. His high position on the mountain symbolizes the high nature of His reign, for he looks over every individual. God is with these people.

As we talked and grew closer to God’s gracious servants who led us through this journey, we learned more about the deep united culture that shapes Tegucigalpa. These people know and love God and constantly unite to share this love. This culture has shaped our team as we have united to serve God in our endeavors this week. We have embarked on a new journey, and God has shown us how to live for Him through the people of Honduras. This drive has shaped our team as we prepare to be God’s hands and feet in the world this week.001June
